2nd Star on the Write has launched their first project called Law of Realities: The Breaking on the crowd funding platform Kickstarter to tell a character driven story with a digitally painted cinematic art style.

L.o.R. is a fascinating, fantasy themed comic with a strong action and adventure feel. Written by Matthew Kuhn and Art by Preston Stone.

The story is set in the near future where climate change has reached an extreme, with natural and man made disasters growing in intensity and frequency. Scientists are sure the time of man will come to an end if something drastic isn’t done to stabilize the planet.

Fortunately, breakthroughs in technology lead to the discovery of energy bubbles capable of altering the very fabric of reality. Work immediately began to generate a bubble large enough to cover the globe saving life as we know it.

However, mere seconds after successfully encasing the world inside the field, tragedy struck. Instead of forming a single bubble, it split into thousands of smaller ones. These bubbles rent the Earth, causing massive earthquakes. Buildings are torn asunder as whole sections are swallowed whole in the cataclysm.

“It was the end of the world.” As they watch the world as they know it crumble and disappear, Calvin and Skyla are sure they are witnessing the end. However, new life explodes from the devastation with the same ferocity as the destruction that preceded it. Flora and fauna rip out of the ground and trees burst forth, racing for the sky, growing to incredible heights in mere moments.

New animals start to emerge, but with them come a host of monsters with a taste for human flesh. With cities obliterated and no government, the disorganized survivors have nowhere to turn for protection. Humanity stands on the brink of extinction.

Throughout history Man has overcome adversity through its ability to rally in the face of danger, adapting to the circumstances and overcoming impossible odds through sheer will. The time has come again for man rise to the challenge, everyone has a role to play, every last hand vital to the cause.

The art is another key difference to L.o.R. from other comics. It is digitally painted for a cinematic feel, drawing the reader further into the story, sometimes literally. Because it is based in the near future the artist and writer wanted to allow people to put themselves in the environment and have fun role-playing in a sense what they would do if this happened. Right from the first book they plan to draw in the likeness of people who want to be a part of the story.
