A couple of months ago, a friend of mine and I visited India’s 5th most polluted city, Korba. It was both a terrifying and an eye opening experience. Once pretty and beautiful, with green hills and valleys, it now stands tainted and polluted from all the industries located there. We visited places, spoke with the residents, and tried to dig into the very bottom of the downside of living there. We are now raising money to accomplish the idea of making a documentary film on this city and the hardships faced by its residents.
People are extremely dissatisfied and unhappy, and most places were either industrialized or totally contaminated from nearby industries. We met with the natives, who seemed utterly helpless. They hadn’t learned to survive, but to submit to the conditions. We also visited a school, which was one of those rare institutions trying to make a change and help spread awareness, making me more motivated and courageous to take a stand.
Korba stood so polluted that in the morning parked vehicles, clothes, roofs, and even crops outside were found covered with dust and soot. A family we met, had lost two of its members, both due to pollution and contamination from a closely situated factory. The school we visited reported that annually, it had to forcefully grant holidays to students due to immense smog, during winters. A hospital that we went to, also stated that it handled many patients who were exclusively diseased due to contamination of soil and water bodies, caused by industries.
We pictured, and noted every possible detail and returned back home, with a will to bring a change and voice Korba’s anger and agony. What we intend to do is make a documentary, share it with the film-making companies of our country and screen it during various film festivals. The money we raise from the documentary would be donated to people of Korba. Due, to lack of capital, we are unable to complete the video and use advanced technology for it. If you help us you will share in the joy of completion. We will also make sure you receive a copy of the documentary as well as coupons that will allow you free screenings. Your support is essential to our success. We can’t do it without you.
We hope we were able to describe the problem clearly, and thereby request you to help us out to bring a change and make a difference to the people of Korba.
If you can’t help with funding, we still could use your energy and encouragement. Let your friends know about our campaign. Or, just send us good vibes. You’d be amazed how much your positive energy can help us get this job finished!
