BOULDER, CO: Today, Kitables Co., a new startup aiming to sell kits based on Instructables projects, launched two campaigns on Kickstarter. One of the campaigns is for a DIY glowstick kit and the other is for a Rubisolver kit, which includes the supplies to build a small machine that solves a Rubik’s cube.

“I started Kitables because it’s frustrating to a start a fun side project and have to wait weeks to get all the supplies from different companies. We want to make DIY projects fun again and take out all the hassle” says Arieann DeFazio, the company’s CEO and co-founder.

The glow stick kit includes components, tubes, and safety equipment needed to make real glow sticks. It would be extremely costly (and in some cases impossible) for individuals to order these components. Kitables wants to remove such barriers to entry for science kits. There are some fun rewards on the Kickstarter, including options to make a large glow skull or a hundred foot long glowstick.

The Rubisolver kit includes laser cut pieces that were custom designed by a Kitables engineer, the necessary hardware, instructions, and open source software that has been rewritten by Kitables programmers. Kitables aims to take Instructables projects such as the Rubisolver, optimize every aspect of it, and provide makers all the tools needed to complete the project. The higher Kickstarter rewards for the Rubisolver include nicer versions of the Rubisolver, including a Rubisolver made of acrylic (instead of the standard birch wood).

The Rubisolver has a 30 day funding goal of $8,850 and the glowstick kit has a 30 day goal of $12,250. For more information, check out their Kickstarters
