KIRADA is not just a farm; it is a great way of farming for a healthy lifestyle! We urge you to do some research on the benefits of organic foods, THEY ARE NOT JUST GREAT, THEY ARE SWEET, FRESH AND HEALTHY! Kirada is a farm for the young, elderly and the average people who want the best of their health. Let your body thank you..!!!

How and what is to be done at the farm?

Why start an agri-business of my own? Well my answer is simple, food is a basic need?! I am taking my love of growing up in a farm with a strong urge and desire to be the best farm and a source of organic food for most of the families and again also to be self-employed, build-up a business that offers employment in my country in such a time that many youth are unemployed. Having worked in my father’s farm and also witnessed of shortages of basic foodstuffs in the market most of the time in my country, I believe that I am can be of great help to the thousands if not millions sleeping without enjoying their healthy meal on their dinner tables.

At the farm we will do organic farming, to grow crops with the highest yields, horticultural crops for the best market consumption. Some of the crops include: Cabbages

In an acre, growing queen F1 (a variety of cabbage seeds from Simlaw seeds company ) high yielding cabbage variety we will be able have a yield of a maximum 30 tons in 3 months’ time which will earn up to, $1700- 2000.

ONIONS:
Nearly every meal of an average person in the world has to have onions in the world and this shows something about the market out here, there high demand for the onions and that’s what i want to tap as a farmer.

In a span of 3 months an acre of Hybrid bulb onions will give you an income of $8000. After 3 months of transplanting the onions it can produce a yield of 20,000 Kgs bulbs. 1 Kg of Onions at market price goes @ $ 0.4 i.e 20,000 Kgs × 0.4 = $ 8000 minus average cost of production which is $1500 per Acre = $ 6500 Net income.

CARROTS:
Carrot farmers in Kenya can now harvest up to 17 tons per acre in just 100 days, thanks to a new high yielding, fast maturing and disease resistant carrot variety from Kenya Highland Seed Limited. Known as Nantes hybrid, this variety has very attractive deep orange color, shallow flesh cover with high vitamin content. It is cylindrical with rounded tip and measures 17-20cm.

Nantes, unlike other varieties in the market is highly resistant to Powdery Mildew, a disease capable of wiping 70 per cent of crops in the farm. The average yield per acre for this variety is almost double the country’s average yield of 10 tons.

This will be able to yield about 17,000kg@ $0.5/= gives $ 8500. If you minus $ 1250 cost of production which is equivalent to or about 25%. The Carrot seed requirements are 2.5kg per acre.

DAIRY COWS:
The most important capital in dairy is buying the cows and construction (shed, milking crushes, fencing, and equipment). The cost of an in-calf heifer varies from $ 400 -2000/- depending on genetic potential. Simple cow sheds for holding up to 7 cows are estimated to cost ($800-2400/-) depending on materials and labor. The cost can be substantially reduced by using own timber, building stones, rainwater and home labor during construction. Example: Dairy cow (Friesian or Ayrshire) weighing 400 kg kept in Central Kenya under zero grazing management based on bought feeds.

Feed stuff Amount (fed based on dry matter).
• Napier grass 5 kg
• Lucerne 3kg
• Dairy meal 4kg
• Macklick super 120grams

Note: Fresh water available free of choice.

On average the cow will give a net profit of $ 250 per month having deducted all the expenses.
With 7 dairy cows, which we will be expecting $ 250 X 7 = $ 1750 per month.

HOW THE FUND WILL BE UTILIZED:
The money raised will be used to purchase the necessary tools to equip my workers to be able to carry out their installation tasks and repairs. The funds will be utilized as follows:
1. purchase of concentrates and dairy meal for the cows: USD 1000
2. Purchase of seeds and aprons: USD 300
3. Building of cow sheds for 7 dairy cows: USD 2400
4. Purchase of in-calf heifer 6 in number @ $900: USD 5400

TOTAL: USD 9100

I believe that I am can be of great help to the thousands if not millions sleeping without enjoying their healthy meal on their dinner tables.
