Montreal, Québec — November 11th, 2015 | Creatinc has launched an innovative pen, specifically designed to enable writing from all angles: up, down and sideways. On its first day on Kickstarter it raised 12,000 dollars, 40% of its goal funding. The project is live on Kickstarter.
The everyday pen from a new angle
Vikram Swaminadhan and Gilles Boulanger from Creatinc have upgraded the everyday pen. The result? The Bendy Pen. “When you write standing up or lying back with a regular pen, the ink stops flowing. That’s because it is designed for writing downwards,” says Swaminadhan. “But nowadays people are happy to lie back and use a stylus on their tablets. Why wouldn’t we want the same comfort with a pen?”
The new pen allows you to write up, down and sideways
It is not the first time someone has tried to create such a pen, but it is the first time someone made it this easy. Swaminadhan: “NASA developed a pressurized Space Pen in 1965, because astronauts couldn’t count on gravity to use regular pens. It cost them lots of money and the pen never caught on in the consumer market. The Bendy Pen is way easier: it uses the same principle as a drinking straw. You just bend it the way you want to, and it stays like that. As a result, this angle-adjustable pen plays with gravity and allows you to write up, down and sideways.”
The goal: collecting $30,000 on Kickstarter
The Bendy Pen is live on Kickstarter since November 9th. There, people can pledge any amount they want to support the project. Swaminadhan and Boulanger hope to raise at least $30,000 by December 24th to cover for the production and transport of the ordered Bendy Pens. The plan is to ship the pens to their pledgers in Spring 2016. “If we raise more, we also have some more ideas. We’d like to produce cheaper pens in plastic and add stylus tips. Or even whistle caps, why not?”
Inventors share their insights
Swaminadhan and Boulanger believe that anyone can be an inventor. “To prove that, we give away e-books about inventing for free, along with the Bendy Pens to anyone who pledges,” explains Swaminadhan. “These e-books are the result of teaching Creative Thinking to children and adults for over seven years. Pledgers will receive The Inventors Handbook and, depending on the pledge amount, also The Creation Formula and the Unlock Your Creative Genius modules.”
