A Stop-Motion, Cardboard Spaceship Adventure!
CHICO, California (April 17th, 2014) – Josh Funk, an independent filmmaker, today announced the release of his next project that launches on Kickstarter April 17th. “The Spaceman” is a black and white short film that mixes live-action and stop-motion animation together to create a visually striking, fun-filled adventure. It tells the story of a man who creates a cardboard spaceship, goes to another planet to dispose of a mysterious object, & battles an alien monster.
Unlike Funk’s last film “Wormholes” that was entirely made of stop-motion sets and puppets, “The Spaceman” will mix live action footage with stop-motion animation.
“I’m really pushing myself this time by using miniatures, puppets, cable animatronics, and camera tricks to blend this world together with a live actor,” said Josh. “There will be moments where I even animate the actor frame by frame to create a surreal, fantasy-like quality.”
Playing the role of “The Spaceman” is Funk’s younger brother Jordan Funk who has already been filming this project for a year. “So far we’ve filmed scenes of me in the spaceship cockpit and exploring the alien planet but we have a lot of work left to do,” said Jordan. “I can’t wait to see the final battle all put together.”
Funds received from Kickstarter contributors will go directly towards building sets, puppets, props, and entering into film festivals.
“We are halfway done with the movie, but the second half is the toughest due to the time and dedication it takes to animate these puppets,” said Josh. “But even though its difficult and time consuming, its my favorite part.”
