Two Irishmen living in Japan have developed a passion for sharing Japanese culture with the rest of the world. Japanese manholes are a subtle expression of beauty and of the appreciation of even the littlest things in Japan. Hand-made in Tokyo, Japanese Manhole t-shirts provide anyone with the chance to carry a little piece a Japan with them everyday! There are currently 5 manhole designs available, with the possibility to offer so many more in the future. The shirts come in a variety of sizes and colors; there’s something for everyone! About the creators, 47Regions: “Upon arriving in Japan, it did not take us long to notice the exquisite and detailed manhole covers that can be spotted across the country. One of the many reasons we love Japan is the attention to detail that is displayed in all areas of Japanese life. Japanese people have the gift to be able to turn something so simple and mundane into works of art. Each manhole cover tells a story of its history and the culture of that town. We have been collaborating with numerous city/town offices to bring their art from the streets of Japan to a worldwide audience. Right here in Tokyo, these designs have been replicated and will be hand painted by us using the silk screen printing method. For our initial startup, we have chosen five designs of actual manhole covers from various towns across Japan; Chichibu city, Wakuya city, Kusatsu city, and 2 Fuji city designs”.

Both Kevin and Steven are from Ireland and have lived in Japan for 3 and 10 years, respectively. They are both passionate about starting businesses and expanding their skills to share their art and Japanese culture with the rest of the world. Both have started working in Japan as English teachers. www.kickstarter.com
