Piloting the future of work cum crowdfunding launch of “New century, old business models?” book: igg.me

“Success today should not be measured by GDP, wealth and income. Rather it is about being an inclusive and sustainable society that has people as the ends, and not the means. It is about building a sense of belonging, of being respected and valued for who you are, not what you should be, and ultimately, being always treated with equal dignity and compassion, no matter how old, how rich, how educated, what titles you hold, and how different you are. ” Laurence Lien, Chief Executive Officer of the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre and a Nominated Member of the Singapore Parliament advocating for the social sector and civil society.

“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.” Alvin Toffler

Singapore, March 24, 2014 – Deemed the world’s richest country by Gallup, the costliest by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and the unhappiest by Randstad’s World of Work Report, is tiny Singapore the ideal city state to become the world’s test bed for a happier world?

Inviting the world to crowd actualize a happier 21st century

Why: Tomorrow matters. To enable people to understand and adjust to 21st century realities, up to 97% of CrowdPowers equity will be given away to crowd actualize the macro shift to a happier world. By letting autonomy, mastery and purpose power a more sustainable way of doing business for everyone’s benefit, CrowdPowers aspires to facilitate the mindset shift from “Me” to “We”.

Extract from upcoming book, “New century, old business models?”:

What: By leveraging technology to scale social motivation and productivity, CrowdPowers is an experiment to become the world’s first crowd actualized Tomorrow matters branding agency focused on how people enable more successful startups and create more sustainable 21st century startup ecosystems for a happier world. bit.ly

www.crowdpowers.com is a new engagement platform to empower a community of passionate Tomorrow matters doers to collaborate and walk their talk to becoming the ideal CrowdPowers empowerment tribe. It may take three to five years for this global tribe to emerge.

Preparation to engage strangers to be our best for everyone’s benefit started with researching the Singapore startup ecosystem last year. Our founder met up with more than 50 insiders to get their perspectives on enabling more successful startups. crowdpowers.com This has since evolved into the “New century, old business models?” book (paperback, ePub and mobi versions), expected to be released in July 2014.

True change happens only when consistent engagement can be scaled

“Each of us has the perfect gift to give the world. It’s what we were born with. So, whether actualizing a startup or inventing our ideal job, if we are able to each give what’s so uniquely ours – won’t we be able to create magic for and with each other?” Betty Lim, founder, CrowdPowers Pte Ltd

There is no business plan. bit.ly/1gghCvK

For revenue generating activities the crowd participate in, net profits will be shared with the very best. Initially, we will determine the percentages and sharing. Once the crowd set up the startup fund, up to one third of our annual net profits will go into that. Such terms will be crowd defined.

Where: To pilot the future (possibility) of work and crowdfund the book fulfilment and basic fees for 3-4 people to harness the power of the crowd to scale the “Tomorrow matters” momentum, our first 60 days crowdfunding campaign goes live today, with the beta phase of www.crowdpowers.com. Developed around inviting the world to share why Tomorrow matters, our net Indiegogo profits will be shared with the very best of the crowd.

We believe a mindset revolution is KEY to crowd actualizing a happier 21st century and Singapore can play a pivotal role as the world’s test bed for that.

the author

Betty Lim, introverted social entrepreneur with growth mindset A proven self starter with INTJ inclinations honed off the beaten path, Betty believes "Together, we can create a more caring world” and is committed to making that happen. Four years ago, she relocated back to Singapore to do her ‘national service’. On a voyage of self discovery at the turn of the century, Betty found it’s innate in her to want people to be happy and became fascinated with how technology can transform the world. Her explorations led her to develop six portals, an interview with TVB (Hong Kong’s leading TV station), an NGO’s international directors’ meeting in Japan and to join the organizing committee of Hong Kong’s inaugural social enterprise summit. Jet Li One Foundation also invited her to meet Dr. Muhammad Yunus in Beijing. In 2009 and end 2011, KPMG China/HK commissioned her to write their two CSR books. ‘New century, old business models?’ will launch her initial ideas for a happier world to empower strangers to cross the mindset chasm from ‘Me’ to ‘We’, to rethink success, and to give one’s best to crowd actualize a new way of doing business for the benefit of all. Betty’s hugely experiential reputation management career with advertising agencies, corporates, SMEs and media owners had spanned diverse industries. After cutting her eye teeth with three of the world’s largest ad agencies, Betty *pioneered and/or managed communications divisions in Asia for *The Ascott Executive Residences, *Ernst & Young, Hong Kong Telecom (now PCCW), *Shun Tak Holdings and Jones Lang LaSalle. She also spearheaded the Asia-wide implementation of a global hospitality program for the International Hotels & Restaurant Association. As businesses geared up for the 21st century, initiating and fine-tuning business processes locally and regionally was also a large part of her mandate. Our interim tribe of strangers Simon Sim – Currently based in Finland, Singaporean Simon was connected to Betty by a mutual friend. After spending 15 years with the Singapore civil service (Navy & MINDEF), he and his family moved to Finland in 2009. His current passion is to actualize a new approach to knowledge exploration and creation. Despite the distance and time difference, Simon has been extremely supportive. He has assisted with the research and is also the first person to go over the entire manuscript. His kids also grace the CrowdPowers page on Facebook and ask you to think if Tomorrow matters. Shahansha Shaik - While studying for a Bachelor of Technology at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), India, Shahansha Shaik started a freelance career, designing websites. Over a span of eight years, he has worked with almost all development technologies, developed more than a hundred websites and worked in several in-house IT departments. Shahansha currently works for a MNC in India and dreams of starting his own software company. He is instrumental in developing the initial phase of our website.
