Los Angeles, CA — On July 27th, 2015, Young independent student filmmaker, Rohan Castermeyer, launched the Kickstarter campaign to raise fund for his 3 minute, silent, Black & White short film entitled “life.”. The ambitious project, spearheaded by Castermeyer & his childhood friend & producer, Ravi Dhawan, aims to raise 50 million dollars in the next 30 days.

“Life is about a blind recovering drug addict who is estranged from his racist family and suffers from alcoholism & gambling,” says Castermeyer, whose young life the story is based on. “It also touches on issues of drugs, alcohol, racism, abuse, blindness, turf warfare, shank fighting, the slave trade, long lost lovers, illegitimate black sons, huffing paint chips, killing puppies, eating dog meat, friendship, death and, of course, life.”

“The story is very important because it deals with things we can all relate to,” says Dhawan, a recent immigrant, only 28. “Rohan [Castermeyer] handles the creative end of things, while I handle the logistics,” says Dhawan, who plans on being a “big time producer” by the time he’s 30.

The biggest challenges facing Castermeyer are ethereal, he says, noting that “As a true visionary, the biggest challenges I face are internal. Who am I? Why am I so much better than everyone else?” According to Castermeyer, other major challenges include “keeping everyone around me from destroying my visionary film,” and “conveying such complex emotions in 3 minutes.”

Castermeyer admits that although his fundraising goal seems ambitious, there is no doubt in his mind that he can raise it, as he “believes in the power of the now.”

Castermeyer, who plans to shoot the 3 minute short over the course of 2 weeks in September, could not be more thrilled to be following his dreams and pursuing his passion. “After [this film] “life.” rolls over and I’m raking in the awards and accolades, I imagine the only logical next step would be to direct a Bio-Pic about my life as a director,” Castermeyer proclaimed.
