Are you ready for the ultimate Injection?
April 2015 marks the launch of INJECTION, an action-packed sci-fi/fantasy genre short film presented as a motion graphic novel, created by Michael Schroeder, a 4th year Film/Media Degree Humber College student.
About the story:
Jinn is a super-powered agent who finds a lot more than he bargained while hunting down a Defector of his organization, Syntech in a ruined Dubai. The idea of producing a motion graphic novel in a short film format rises from Schroeder’s passion for anime and love of Japan and its culture. He lived there for over a year and was inspired enough to return to Canada to acquire a degree in Film and Media Studies.
Schroeder: I feel this kind of project is important because it features a Middle Eastern Protagonist in a society where the only form of discrimination is class based. The story takes current issues from corporate personhood to humanity’s effect on the environment and integrates them into an exciting sci-fi/fantasy with crazy super powers and conspiracy. Future issues will introduce strong, non-sexualized, female protagonists and antagonists as well. As an animated film, we are forced to break down every panel or shot into separate elements. Everything from the visual layers, colouring, sounds, voice work, movements and effects have to be carefully considered, arguably more so than a live action film. Being the Director and independent on this project forces me to take part in all aspects of production. I have built an amazing team and sharing creative ideas is so fun! A group’s creativity will forever be more powerful than just my own. I know when an idea is valuable and has potential to be something big and I believe Injection has the potential to be something more than a one shot school project and could even go on to do well as a web comic series or even something bigger and more interesting! I couldn’t be more excited about this project!
Promotional Campaign:
The Kickstarter promotional campaign takes off on August 18, 2014 and offers sponsors everything from posters and t-shirts to DVDs and hard copy graphic novels of the first release. In addition, exclusive, limited edition Injection posters designed by Andrew Kwan, a published freelance artist based in Toronto, Canada, will be available at Wizard World Chicago Comic Con (August 21 -24) and Fan Expo (August 28th-31st).
