The media has forgotten about Norma, but we haven’t.
What if everyone had forgotten about you? Imagine you are 94-years-old and you still live on your own. You have no family, so you use what little life savings you have to pay a woman to clean your apartment. She offers to help with cooking. There is also the comfort of having another person come to your home.
Norma Marshall’s housekeeper took advantage of her trust. The elderly Toronto woman has no immediate family and she is struggling to maintain her independence.
Pharmasave delivery man Firoz Jogiat, who regularly brought Norma her medication, noticed something was wrong and informed pharmacist Selina Chan-Ying. They called Toronto Police and they arrested the housekeeper and her husband.
We don’t want to focus on the two individuals who have been arrested because they don’t deserve our time. The housekeeper and her husband moved into Norma’s apartment against her will, gained access to her bank account and sold her belongings.
Norma lost $25,000 in savings. When we spoke with her recently she said that the stress caused by this situation has affected her health. She can’t get out and she may have to give up her precious cat and companion.
When the news story about Norma Marshall broke on April 2, I felt compelled to do something. I started a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. We were doing great when Norma’s story was fresh in the minds of the public, but the press has moved on. Please share Norma’s story and our campaign and help us build a good news story!
Restore Faith in Humanity for 94-Year-Old Norma Marshall
Once the campaign ends, the money will be deposited in the trust fund set up at RBC for Norma by Pharmacists Selena Chan-Ying and Bernard Woo.
