It’s a classic hero’s journey story! As an Australian living in Canada on a holiday working visa, I lost my job just before the Covid outbreak and lockdowns began. Once everything started to open back up here in Vancouver – my visa had expired then was unable to work legally. I found a way to bridge my education (Degree in Psychological Science) with my passion for human connection and healing through the deck I created, Emotional Collidescope.
If the last 18 months have taught us anything, it’s that we need, want, and value human connections like never before.
Being around people and socializing is something we as a society have taken for granted. But then, with the onset of a global pandemic, social distancing, and never-ending lockdowns, everything changed. The pandemic not only affected our confidence, but it had a devastating effect on our mental health.
I wanted to address this dilemma before the world faced a global pandemic of mental illness. I aim to provide people with their very own personal psychotherapist, mentor, or counselor, a practical tool for people to keep close and use whenever needed.
The Introspection Deck of cards is a holistic resource to help support, nurture, and improve mental wellbeing. By harnessing the power of human connections, I hope to foster a safe space to express feelings, thoughts, and emotions.
I drew inspiration for the original concept from Sigmund Freud’s Three Levels of Mind: Conscious, Preconscious, and Subconscious. His theory formed the basis of my in-depth set of questions.
The intentions of these cards are a starting point to take a deep dive into understanding self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and compassionate listening.
Each card helps to evoke memories as you go through progressive sets of questions. The primary aim of the cards is to spark self-enlightenment, evolution, and healing.
We set a realistic goal of 6K and managed to hit it under 48 hours, our true goal is 18K + to really get this business off the ground. It is currently live and on day 3.
