Chicago, IL — Hinterlands Productions has launched a campaign to fund its debut film production – THE BIRDER (@thebirderfilm). A political allegory told through visions of a nightmare, The Birder follows a mild-mannered schoolteacher and bird enthusiast who makes a startling discovery and finds himself up against an all-powerful authoritarian state. The film, which is in pre-production, will be shot in Chicago in Spring 2017. The film is being produced by talented artists working on a volunteer basis.

According to writer/director, Bradley V. Powell, who is also the founder of Hinterlands Productions, The production company is “built on the premise of pushing the art of cinema beyond the accepted rules and many conventions of the mainstream.”

“At their very best, films can and must be more than simple disposable entertainments. A great film can move its audience as it engages them on an intellectual, emotional, and spiritual level,” he says.

“The Birder draws upon the styles and techniques of Hollywood’s storied past, blending them with the technological advances of the modern day. The effect, we hope, will be something truly unique as we pay homage to the great films and filmmakers of yesteryear while striving to create a work of art that speaks to and about our current social, political, and cultural climate.”

Given the current uncertainty with regard to federal funding of the arts going forward, Mr. Powell believes that it is imperative that art lovers be active in maintaining a climate that supports bold artistic endeavors.

The campaign has already made a quarter of its funding goal and the film will only have the chance to film if that goal is met. Those who wish to support this unique and important scoo-political project are encouraged to visit the production’s crowdfunding campaign page: www.indiegogo.com
