This is Lindsey’s story, and an ask of one of her friends. An ask for a dear friend, who has and continues to make a world of difference to every student and every person she meets. This is our chance to make a big difference for her and her family.
In August, Lindsey found a lump in her breast, 10 days later she was diagnosed with Stage 3, Invasive Ductal Breast Cancer (ER 20%, PR -, HER2 -). Two weeks later she began the first of two types of chemo-therapy.
For those of you who know Lindsey well, she is an incredible person. She is a mother of 4 (ages 11 and under with one still in daycare), a PhD student so very close to completing her degree, a full-time College & Career Counselor, a Girl Scout Troop leader, a wife, a daughter, a connector, someone who inspires, helps, makes an impact, and a friend.
The week before Thanksgiving, Lindsey finished one type of chemo (yay!) and has started a new type. This process of fighting for her life has meant and will mean more tests, chemo, appointments, medications. The great news is that the treatment is working, the bad news is that cancer sucks and is super expensive, even with insurance, the out of pocket max ($6000) and deductibles start over in January (and increase to $7000). This makes medical bills that are already unaffordable, even more so. Most recently she had an unexpected trip to the Emergency Room with a bill totaling almost $1,500 out-of-pocket.
We are asking everyone to chip in and help Lindsey finish treatment strong! We can all make life just a little easier on Lindsey and her family. No amount is to little to give and sharing her link in various platforms and social circles is much appreciated.
And Lindsey would also ask you to “check your boobs and have your friends check their boobs please” in an effort for women to have chances to discover any suspect lumps and have them checked out sooner than later! www.gofundme.com
