Crowd Funding Campaign for a Theatre Production in London, UK

Activist Theatre Company Goblin Baby presents Claire Booker’s thought-provoking drama, inspired by Tolstoy’s short story The Devil:

• June 2014 at The Space (Isle of Dogs) &
• July 2014 at Ye Olde Rose & Crown (Walthamstow)

We are currently raising funds to help us bring to life this topical tale about injustice, deceit, passion and the search for the truth.

We hope you can support us by giving whatever you can (even £1 is awesome), or by spreading the word about our crowdfunding campaign, or by coming to one of the performances this June and July! Thank you!

  • About the play:

Russian landowner, Zhenya, sows wild oats with one of his peasant girls, but puts it all behind him when he marries – or so he believes.

Inspired by a Tolstoy short story, the play follows Zhenya’s obsession and its murderous consequence, as he finds himself driven mad with desire for Stepashka.  Desperate to end his guilty liaison and safeguard his marriage, he shoots her and stands trial for murder. But can there be true justice in an unjust society?  And is it guilt, insanity or the supernatural that finally haunts him?

  • About the company:

Founded in 2013, the Goblin Baby Theatre Co. is a London-based activist theatre ensemble not afraid to address taboos and set out to challenge the confines of conventional theatre. We focus on creating theatre that gives a voice to people and stories which are unknown, forgotten, repressed or ignored. Goblin Baby has a particular interest in working with new writing and, thus far, several original scripts have been commissioned for our productions. Furthermore, we are also interested in working with undiscovered and neglected scripts. Our aim is to create thought-provoking productions that have the potential to raise social awareness as well as to expose and question the world and society we live in. Previous productions are UNHEARD – A New Writing Festival exploring themes around sexual abuse and violence,  RETOLD – A Fairytale Festival… without the ‘happily ever after’ and a one-night-only benefit production of Eve Ensler’s THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES.

Remotegoat: “Goblin Baby Theatre Co. seems to have a knack for finding ways to address at times challenging or unusual topics through theatre.”

A Younger Theatre:“undoubtedly succeeds in igniting discussions that should be had about stories that shouldn’t be silenced”

The Public Reviews: “definitely a company to watch and it will be exciting to see them grow”
