Do you want to be on a scientific journal, and help answer the question, which fuel is best, Gasoline, Battery or Hydrogen?

Be named and help support this Quad Fueled Bicycle (QFB) demonstrator project!

This paper, when published will likely have multiple future citations from others working in the renewable transportation area. This is an opportunity to be part of a realistic mobile energy storage comparison that could influence future transportation decisions.

This project looks at multiple fuel sources and makes a side by side comparison through the use of a personal transportation vehicle specifically developed for this project. The performance of each fuel will be recorded by instrumenting the vehicle and monitoring parameters such as kWh of electrical energy used / generated and pressure and flow rates of other fuel sources.

Data from this experimental vehicle will be analyzed and results published in an open access scientific journal. An open access journal allows anyone to freely download the published article without the need for associated journal subscription fees.

The Energy Sources
1) Gasoline: Gasoline is mixed with 2-stroke oil and stored within a 1.5 liter aluminum tank for running the 2-Stroke 80CC engine.

2 & 3) Hydrogen (Internal combustion engine and PEM fuel cell): Hydrogen is stored in a aluminum cylinder with a water volume of 4.3 liters with a working pressure of 3000 PSI (207 bar). Therefore at full pressure this cylinder can store up to 890 liters of hydrogen at STP (or 31 c.ft). The high pressure storage is regulated down (to 1-3 bar) to produce a supply of hydrogen that is used, either to power the modified internal combustion engine or run a 200W PEM fuel cell to produce electricity that is used with the electric motor for propulsion.

4) Battery Electric: The battery electric drive train consists of a 560Wh lithium-ion battery and a 500W brushless direct drive hub motor.
