The Project!
Plushies fill many a child’s room . Here, the idea is to use these wonderful toys to help teach; and we thought the periodic table would be the place to start. This can easily be a confusing subject although important because it is part of life all around us.
The fundamental idea came from learning and how we are taught. Schools teach one way usually; but what if that way does not make sense in your mind, no matter how hard you think about the steps or ideas? In this case, let Helium help! This project will let kids learn in a whole new way, and in a way that will stick.
The Plushie
Starting with Helium, the first noble gas, let your young learner wrap their arms around this soft, plush toy. Everything about Helium is supported by its description. Such a great way to learn and super soft too! Don’t you want to take it off the screen and hug it?
The Fact Sheet
This describes the properties behind the element and the connection to this creature. For example, “This creature is found throughout the world in abundance. They are very light creatures who enjoy jumping from tree to tree, or mountain to mountain.” Where as Helium, the element, is the second lightest and second most plentiful element in the world. This sheet is where the learning comes from and what makes these plushies unique.
This is the first of what I hope to be many Plushies with fact sheets. It would be something that would be great in elementary school classes as a whole set of plushies to use as a learning tool, where the kids will be able to put the element with a character and learn the character’s facts which will help the kids learning of the element itself in an extremely fun way. It would also be great fun to expand these character’s further and create either games or videos based on the characters and how they would interact with each other and allow the kids to learn that way. This is what I believe to be a much better learning method than root memorization which happens so much at schools that the creative side of kids is drilled out of them completely.
Stretch Goal
And that’s not all! If we are blessed with $16,000 then another elemental character will be manufactured! Once this goal is reached, we will have a poll over the current graphic designs – the most popular one will be crafted into another plushie and you will be able to choose between the two which one you want. Then this series will really be on its way!
