The Brazilian production company Nimboo’s just finished filming its newest musical documentary about Portland and Brazil and are now with a crowdfunding campaign to finish it (www.indiegogo.com). GRU-PDX is a film that follows Brazilian indie band Quarto Negro who sets out to Portland, Oregon to record their second album. During six months of coming and going, they discover the rich music scene that’s been established in the city during the past decade and that recording a music album isn’t a task for the faint of heart.

The documentary includes interviews with over 50 important names of the music industry including Sub Pop Records, The Dandy Warhols, The Thermals, Portugal. The Man, Red Fang, Menomena, Larry Crane, The Helio Sequence, Radiation City, Wild Ones, Brainstorm and dozens more. In addition, the film includes live performances from indie bands recorded by the Portland music blog Into the Woods. In the words of the film’s producer, Nikolas Maciel, GRU-PDX is “a cinematographic onrush of these guys from Brazil putting the effort of their lives (and betting all the money they didn’t have) to record an album in one of the most hip cities of the world.”

While the film is in the final editing stage, the producers opened an Indiegogo campaign to help fund final elements such as sound mix and color grading. Furthermore, a work-in-progress version of the documentary was already screened in the SPOT Music Film Festival in Denmark (spotfestival.dk) and the Brazilian In-Edit Music Festival in São Paulo (www.in-edit-brasil.com).

Nimboo’s is a small production company that produces short films and television series focused on music. The company was founded by award-winning director Daniel Barosa and producer Nikolas Maciel. GRU-PDX is set to release early 2015. The Indiegogo campaign is live at: www.indiegogo.com
