The Gridiron Marker is a 10 yard rope with an attached marker to keep track of yardage gained and the current down for every play. The ten yard rope is colored by every yard to help you easily visualize how far you are away from the first down. The 1st down marker is placed at the line of scrimmage and is in easy view for the quarterback to shout out what down you are currently on.

You can use the Gridiron Marker at a park, school field, or any open space! You can use the Gridiron Marker in your flag football games, touch football games, or just for fun! If you are looking to practice your routes and plays, the Gridiron Marker is a perfect complement to your training. We like to place the gridiron marker in front of the QB since our QB is the one who usually shouts at what down we are currently on. We have never tripped on the rope before even when running slant plays. The rope is ten yards long and will show the distance necessary to get the first down. You can make a pass or run a play. After the completion, move the first down marker to the new line of scrimmage and rotate it to show what down you are currently on. Once you hit your first down, move the rope to the completion spot and you will have another set of downs to reach the new distance.

We organize flag football games with our friends and family when it is cool out here in Arizona. We initially created a rough prototype of the Gridiron Marker. It initially started out as a piece of rope with just two tennis balls at the ends for weight. We played with a rule that we needed four downs to get a certain distance. We were tired of people throwing long passes to get the first down. The game became predictable because you would always know what the other team’s game plan was. We also argued a lot on the spot of the first down completion and what down we were currently on. We created the Gridiron Marker, so we can play the game like how the NFL has it. We are able to throw short passes and pretty much use anything in the playbook. We use it now in our own games! We love it because it has streamlined our games and made the experience more enjoyable.
