Ancient China is in peril. The heroes of Chinese legends and myth are missing, and without them, the entirety of Chinese history could go terribly wrong. The Jade Emperor, king of Chinese heaven, selects three children from the modern world to go back in time and figure who or what is behind the disturbances. To aid the children in their journey, the Jade Emperor gives them three magical calligraphy brushes. The brushes are used to write Chinese characters, and whatever you write, becomes real. To aid them further, the Jade Emperor also sends Xiao Fenghuang, a young phoenix, who one days wishes to become a great phoenix in Chinese heaven.

Journey to the Middle Kingdom will be a series of graphic novels each featuring a different Chinese fairy tale where the heroes will have to find out what’s missing and fix it. Aimed at young adults, but easily enjoyed by adults, each book will be a romp through a world of fantasy and high action, and the reader will learn some Chinese along the way as the characters have to learn Chinese characters to use their powers effectively. The first story arc will cover one of the top four most famous Chinese fairy tales in history: “Legend of the White Snake Maiden.” The three kids will have to take on a crazed Buddhist monk and reunite two lovers separated by fate.
