On Monday January 6th Grandpa Ed ‘s Workshop debuted on Kickstarter. The Workshop is the brainchild of Jon Fromm of Cameron Park California. Jon has developed a line of handmade wooden castles for use with popular toy figures. The castles are of a modular design allowing for several expandable configurations and are available in multiple colors.

The Workshop project is an homage to Jon’s late grandfather Ed Fromm.  Ed was a gifted carpenter, designer, and tinkerer and it was in Ed ‘s Workshop that Jon learned the art of woodworking.  Grandpa Ed was known for making sturdy and unique projects with novel features.  The Workshop project is working hard to live up to that legacy.

Jon’s goal was to create a detailed durable product that can be appreciated by children and collectors alike. A 6 month design effort culminated with the development of 6 distinct castle components that are combined to form 3 unique configurations. Standardized parts and sizes help to speed production. This parts commonality also allows for multiple versions of each component.

The castles are fabricated from furniture grade Birch plywood with solid Birch and hardwood accents. Each castle is painted with a textured stone or sand color scheme and sealed with a protective matte clear coat.  A limited number of fully furnished and customized castles are being offered with collectors in mind.

The Kickstarter campaign runs through February 5th.
