“And God Created Woman” is a Kickstarter project to photograph fine art nudes against the background of churches in the Greek Islands. Photographer Robert Yoshibo Shell plans to spend five weeks traveling to five different islands – Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Ios and Santorini – and photograph over twenty churches on each island, with different nude subjects. The shooting will take place during August and September. October and November will be spent editing the photos and putting the book together. In December he will publish the book for distribution and send them out as rewards to his funding supporters.
The title of the book “And God Created Woman” comes from the Bible. And the purpose of the project is to depict the nude figure of the woman as a divine creation of the Deity. Both the nude subject and churches have had a long history in the world of art and architecture. But the two have never been presented together in one image in this particular way. Thus this project will offer a unique vision of the nude figure of the woman as a sacred subject at a sacred site.
Robert Yoshibo Shell has done a wide variety of photo assignments over the years. However the area of photography which gives him the most fulfillment in terms of creativity and self-expression is doing fine art nudes. He has attended workshops by some of the great masters of fine art nude photography such as Lucien Clergue, Jock Sturges and Robert Farber. Inspired and motivated by their works, as well as other outstanding photographers, this project is his small contribution to honor the rich tradition and history of the nude in the world of art.

Robert Yoshibo Shell was born in Okinawa,Japan, grew up in the States and is currently residing in Norway. He has had over thirty years experience in photography doing products, travel, weddings, interiors, events, personal injury documentation, fashion shows, models composites among others. He now focuses on portraits and fine art nudes.
