Girl Trip Productions Launches Indiegogo Campaign to Fund Beachwood Charter. New Web Series about Teenage Girls that Delivers Fearless, Comedic and Original Storylines.
Los Angeles, CA (March 10, 2015) – Girl Trip Productions announced a new campaign to crowdfund the making of an original web series representing the real and authentic journeys of teenage girls. Beachwood Charter, a web series based in Los Angeles, is a dramedy that captures a true chunk of realism by chronicling the raw, candid, awkward lives of high school girls from different backgrounds all attending an arts and science high school for girls. The series explores sexuality, gender, nonconformity, race, love, community, and confidence. Beachwood Charter is about claiming humanity along the road to adulthood. All story lines come from real interviews with real teenage girls.
Girl Trip, founded in 2012, is a digital community and gallery space for girls all over the world, 14-24, to exhibit their work, promote their art, share their voice, support each other, and be inspired. It celebrates girls with blogs, films, photography, short novels, solo exhibitions and other creative content. Two years ago, Harrison James (also founder of Girl Trip) along with her business partner, illustrator and producer Kenton Parker, began creating the series.
Girls from all different countries in our Girl Trip community were writing to us, asking for more and more content that represented their true journeys coming of age in the arts and tech today.
“They wanted to see themselves and relate to each other from an authentic place — a viewpoint capturing the beautiful, tender hot mess of it all and from their own perspectives. Their roads are not paved with tied up bows but loose ends, dangling threads, pitfalls, victories and laughter. They are vulnerable and powerful together. They are learning to claim their whole selves. Our show deals with the discovery — sometimes funny, sometimes messy — of these young, female identities”, shares Harrison James, Director & Co-Creator, Beachwood Charter.
Beachwood Charter’s campaign Indiegogo hopes to raise $60,000.00. The 60-day campaign, backed by an incredible team, interviews with cast, trailer, and engaging incentives hopes to reach goal to shed light on the what it’s like to come of age as a young creative soul in today’s climate. The performances by the young talent Elise Luthman and Katie Powers-Faulk are organic, entertaining and raw. The cast is trained both classically, in scene study, and in improvisation, and actors are encouraged to make fearless, truthful choices and allow their imaginations to thrive The money raised will cover production and post production costs including actors’ work, production design, locations, camera, wardrobe, lighting equipment, and feeding the crew. With this funding, Girl Trip will be able to shoot 6 episodes to package the series to networks.
Beachwood Charter will not just speak to teenage girls as its audience, it will also resonate with women and men everywhere who can appreciate a unique series capturing the genuine, authentic moments and situations girls go through while growing up.
