Girl Alone is a powerful new independent fictional short film that needs your help to get from the page to the screen. It’s a shocking and dramatic story with a very modern attitude and a #MeToo resonance.
It’s an intense but ultimately empowering scripted short from an exciting new team with a unique structure, a clever twist and a sting in the tail. It shows a visceral portrayal of one young woman who refuses to accept the hand she is dealt and is a topical and controversial story for the 2018 MeToo audience. With very little dialogue, the film relies on telling the story through the protagonist; The Girl. Some could see her as an anti-hero, but ultimately, she is a survivor and a gripping character study. The story is hard to summarise without giving it away, but the film is promised to grip its audience right from the start!
Filming will be set in and around Manchester, UK and looks to include a team of true Northerners and passionate filmmakers. The team includes some very experienced members who have worked within the film industry for many years; this includes the Director, Keith Farrell and Producer, David Arrowsmith. The story of Girl Alone came from the mind of Linda Barnett, as she makes her screenwriting debut. For Girl Alone, she was heavily influenced by social-realist films such as Fish Tank (2009) and Tyrannosaur (2011), especially their uses of location to impact the story and their moral ambiguities and conflicts.
They are looking for £9000 which will be put right back into the making of the film, from hiring equipment, casting and post-production. All the proceeds are dedicated to making this film an enjoyable project for all involved, in which we hope to spark a conversation about the power of female storytelling and serious topics such as domestic abuse.
