Lincoln, RI — February 1, 2016 | Fusionworks Dance Company, now in its 28th season, will set Rhode Island ablaze this fall as presenter of the inaugural Northeast Choreographers Festival, highlighting the original works of some of the country’s most innovative contemporary dance makers.

A select handful of modern dance choreographers chosen from over 50 applicants nationwide will set their choreography on Fusionworks dancers during several week-long residencies this summer. This work will then be presented in concert in the 2016 Northeast Choreographers Festival in Rhode Island during the Company’s fall season.

Fusionworks Board Vice President, Erica Busillo Adams noted that “NECF will be an incredible opportunity to showcase up-and-coming choreographers, to bring innovative work to the stage, and to get communities, not just in Rhode Island but across the nation, excited about modern dance.”

The Northeast Choreographers Festival is Fusionworks’ largest endeavor to date. It aims to connect the Company with what is happening right now in modern dance beyond Rhode Island; to promote the arts in our communities; and to give choreographers nationwide an opportunity to showcase their work.

Fusionworks Board President, Brian Corte stated, “At Fusionworks, we are expanding our horizons to recognize and celebrate up-and-coming choreographers across the country. As the premier modern dance company in Rhode Island, we are dedicated to bringing you diverse and innovative performances that challenge our dancers and excite our audiences. This is our most ambitious program in our 28 year history and we are very excited to share it with you.”

Fusionworks Dance Company is running a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign through the month of February to fund this project. Their funding goal is $7,000 and all money raised will go toward the following:

– Stipend, housing, and food for the selected choreographers during their residencies
– Transportation for choreographers: To&from bus/train stations/airports, as well as travel to&from the rehearsal studio each day
– Theater rental, stage management, lighting, and other technical costs
– Costume materials and construction
– Administrative, marketing, media, and promotional costs
– Dancers’ pay

Funding on Kickstarter is ‘all-or-nothing’, meaning that Fusionworks must raise a minimum of $7,000 or the project will not be funded at all.
