Manhattan, NY – On October 12 2015, FiveEight Apparel launched a Kickstarter campaign for their new line of proportionate, better fitting clothing for men up to FiveEight. The company’s first line features The Five Eight Chino, The 925 Shirt and the Weekender.
“33% of the US Adult male population is under 5’8″ making it one of the most underserved markets in fashion,” says co-founder Elizabeth Stoian, “We are changing that with our first line created of clothing that is proportionately re-designed for the shorter male. We are looking at every aspect of our garment such as the sleeves, length and tapers points to create the best fitting clothing for our market.”
FiveEight came about after some big realizations about the current state of the fashion industry. In today’s fashion world, there is a lack diversity in the representation of size and body type, as well as racial diversity. This lack of diversity leads to an image that is marketed and sold to the masses but is not representative of the diverse world that we live in today.
Designed in New York and made in the USA, this initial line caters to men that are 5’8” and under. This is a first step in the right direction of where FiveEight Apparel wants to be, and the team is inviting the Kickstarter community to join in and contribute to this project.
“We are creating a brand, but more importantly, we are building a platform to celebrate and promote diversity in fashion,” explains Michael Valdez, Founder, “FiveEight Apparel was created with diversity at its core and we are incorporating this principle into all aspects of our business including: models, designers, influencers, decision makers and the clothing itself.”
In exchange for pledging to the project, backers can gain access to a variety of rewards including a #Fashiondiversity campaign bracelet and a chance to vote on the next collection for $10, a campaign t-shirt and bracelet with exclusive pre-order access to the Spring Collection for $50 and more. Backers can also pledge the early bird price of $75 for one pair of Chinos or a button down and $500 for one of every item in the collection!
