London — After months of hard work planning, filing patents and building prototypes we are pleased to be launching our very own Hoverboard safety bag on Kickstarter today. A new bag which not only contains the fire in the event of a lithium battery explosion, it actively extinguishes the fire with an automatic fire extinguisher, and at the same time filters out the toxic smoke and fumes with its specially designed filter.

Lithium battery fires are a serious problem which are only getting worse; in the past few years there has been an exponential increase in the use of Lithium batteries, which are advantageous due to their compactness and energy density. Lithium batteries are used in laptops, MP3 players, e cigarettes, mobile phones, power tools, drones, electric bikes and now in massive numbers; Hoverboards. There are more than 10 million hoverboards owned worldwide, and no data on how many are unsafe (estimated to be in the millions); and until now, there has been no practical solution. There have been various bags which try to contain the fire to an extent; such as Li-Po charging bags, but nothing that addresses the problem completely.

The FIRE-PROTECT BAG solves the following problems:
1. Eliminates Toxic Fumes and Smoke from the fire with a specially designed filter.
2. Contains the Explosion and Fire within the Composite Fire Resistant Holdall.
3. Actively puts out the Fire with the Automatic Fire Extinguisher inside the bag.

We have priced our bag at £67 which is just under $100, which, is in line with the other inferior bags which don’t actively extinguish the fire and do not filter out the smoke from the fire.

There are horror stories in the news all over the world on a daily basis and whether you like them or not they are going to be around for some time; and with lithium battery technology being the only feasible option for electric scooters, this is going to be a problem for many years to come, even with the tighter regulations and certification standards being enforced.

The FIRE-PROTECT BAG project is seeking £10,000 of Crowdfunding on Kickstarter, which operates on an “all or nothing” funding model, so if the target of is not met at the end of the 30 day period, it could be years before you’ll see it on the market!
