STRICT THE MOVICAL is centered around Song 205 of the 365 songs I wrote back in 2011. The song’s called ’27 Club’ and I wrote it the day Amy Winehouse died.
The story is about Oihana, a troubled bit-part actress/waitress on the eve of her 27th birthday and the group of working class musicians and dancers who care about her. Despite their best efforts, nothing and no one seems able to steer Oihana from certain disaster. When Kathryn, her room-mate lands the leading role in an eerie music video, — Oihana decides to audition for a supporting role and that decision has a massive impact on their lives.
The movie relies on music, dancing, laughter, a few tears and lots of drama… off-stage and backstage. There are no special effects. This is a low-budget film inspired by true events, but it’s entirely fictional. We are partially funded, but have a FundAnything Campaign in place for expenses not covered by our sponsors.
I am a musician. This is what the media and members of the audience had to say when I showed up to sing with the band.
STRICT THE MOVICAL is my debut movie. It evolved over the past three years. On January 1, 2011 I embarked on the My365 Project which involved writing and uploading a song every single day. This was a massive creative effort, I sought inspiration often from headline news and blogs. I shared potential song ideas with a growing number of followers and fans all over the globe. But there was no money for instrumentation or production, so the project didn’t really go anywhere. At the end of it, I had a large body of original material to sort out. So, in 2012, I started playing gigs, singing my songs wherever I could. Mostly eclectic little groups of people and regional festivals.
The entire movie centers around my only music video (27 Club).
It was created early in 2012 by my friends so I could audition for a place with MPL Communications. I got in. This music-movie is a one of a kind thing. It’s not a musical, nobody suddenly starts singing unexpectedly, but the action is driven by the music and it’s all original. I guess it’s sort of like ‘Staying Alive’ meets ‘The Blues Brothers’ meets ‘The Breakfast Club’ with a little bit of Benny Hill AND Dame Edna for a distinctively British twist.
