Filmharmonic Brass, a group of seven of the top brass players from NYC who have made it their mission, as an ensemble, to record & perform film music, exclusively. They are about to embark on an exciting new recording project.
“There is no better choice for our debut recording than to focus our efforts on the music of John Williams – arguably, the most iconic film composer ever,” says Hugo Moreno, a trumpeter in the ensemble. To that point John Williams has given us the memorable melodies that are synonymous with such movies as Star Wars, Jaws, E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Indiana Jones, and many more.
There are several reasons for the group to choose to record an all John Williams album. It is an homage to John Williams and a chance for the ensemble, as brass musicians, to contribute brand new arrangements (by Charlie Porter) to the brass music world, and in doing so add immensely to the limited repertoire. Film music is what Filmharmonic Brass is about and they are aiming to set the bar high with this recording!
The all-new arrangements are by the group’s very own trumpeter & composer Charlie Porter, who has been commissioned to write by Chamber Music America and The Doris Duke Foundation and most recently was recognized by the International Humboldt Brass Composition Contest for his brass octet.
Filmharmonic Brass is running a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for this project. If you would like to support the recording project, there are many incentives, including autographed CD’s, scores & parts of the all of the arrangements, posters, Broadway show seats, even a four course French meal cooked by two of the musicians!
