Cambridge, MA – On April 10th, 2015 FilmFish launched an IndieGogo for the world’s first movie recommendation site that thinks about movies the way people do.
FilmFish makes finding a movie a more intuitive and enjoyable experience. “Only humans can understand what makes a movie a movie” said FilmFish co-founder Alex Stephenson. “We capitalize on that ability in order to provide a more intelligent map to the world of film, based exclusively on human curation.”
The company’s team of film-buffs have hand-sorted 15,000 movies into one and a half thousand intuitive categories, exceeding the number of Netflix’s entire database by 5,000 with over 10 times their number of sub-genres. Some examples of FilmFish’s unique categories include: ‘Tarantino-Esque Action’, ‘Charming British Claymation’, ‘Modern Bromantic Comedy’, ‘Disturbing Asian Horror’, and ‘Strippers vs. Zombie Movies’.
“The number of viewing options has exploded, but recommendation technology has not kept pace” said the company’s chairman, Donald Sull, a professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at MIT Sloan. “FilmFish makes finding a movie fast, easy, and delightful.”
FilmFish looks to raise $10,000 on IndieGogo by May 18, 2015. In exchange for their pledge, backers can expect a variety of rewards including a personalized film-plan, hand-written by FilmFish film-buffs, a fake movie poster starring the backer as lead, and access to the FilmFish 24/7 movie recommendation hot-line
