Injury and adversity didn’t stop this young DM from creating a whole new way to play Dungeons and Dragons.
Auckland, New Zealand — After a devastating car crash caused student Annabelle Collins to drop out of her studies, she used her time in recovery and love of tabletop role-playing games to design a brand new magnetic terrain system to bring to the world.
“This is going to sound incredibly cheesy, but sometimes I do wonder if the brain-injury and whole accident was one of the best things that’s happened to me”.
Despite fighting through intense personality changes and injury-caused illiteracy at the time, Collins was able to design a whole new type of magnetic, double-sided gaming tiles. She brought this terrain to Kickstarter, immediately gaining fans around the world and successfully smashing her funding goal by over 2000%.
Now Collins is working on something even more ambitious, collaborating with creatives around the globe such as Viva La Dirt League and Michael Mordor to offer specialised tiers and custom products to her backers. Support from influencers such as Ginny Di, Got_DM and Robert Hartley have helped boost her performance and 24 hours after launch, she is already well on the way towards funding her much larger project.
In this second Kickstarter campaign, backers can choose from several different types of instantly snap-together, double-sided terrain without the need for clips or trays. Terrain even flatpacks away at the end of gaming sessions only to be rebuilt again in different configurations like “magnetic lego”. The pledges are highly customisable with the basic terrain pack (covering 140 square inches of tabletop!) starting at just 65 USD. Collins’ unique and thoughtful design makes building complex dungeons a breeze.
