Equis Art Gallery in Red Hook, NY announces the launch of a funding campaign through the crowdfunding platform IndieGoGo. The gallery, which showcases equine art, is targeting to raise $24,000 US to move to a larger location, with the intention of making it a destination gallery for visitors to the area.

Equis Art Gallery is the realization of a dream for respected and award-winning photographer and art competition director Juliet R. Harrison. After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013, Harrison was inspired a year later to open a small gallery. Now, two years after her cancer diagnosis, Harrison believes it is time to move Equis Art Gallery to a full-size location, making it a ‘destination’ business that would bring visitors to Red Hook in upstate New York.

The pieces at the Equis gallery are not typical horse-themed images–Harrison wanted to focus instead on contemporary equine art. She sought out artists whose work is “more than horse, more than sport, more than pretty”. Harrison worked from the Pay-It-Forward philosophy, to support two communities that sustained her during her cancer treatments—the equine art community, and her own hometown of Red Hook, New York. “I lost 6 months of my life to surgery and chemotherapy treatments,” says Harrison. “There comes a time when we all say to ourselves, ‘If not now, when?’ A year ago was my time and opening the Equis Art Gallery was my dream.”

Equis Art Gallery represents some of the most respected equine artists in the world. Information on getting involved with Equis Art Gallery’s IndieGoGo campaign can find the link off gallery’s website at: www.equisart.com.
