Ryan M. Winch, concept artist, turns to online funding sources for his debut in the popular and competitive field. With 1 month to raise the funds needed, this will be the artists biggest challenge yet, and he has had his fair share.

San Francisco, CA (WEB) MARCH 27 2015 – Concept Artist Ryan Winch is looking to the internet to raise money and recognition for his debut Book, SPLINTERS, a book containing the artists ideas from sketchbook drawings to full Illustrations. Funding will be just the first major obstacle as a career in concept art, also known as visual development, is among the most competitive job markets in the world. In order to get a leg up, he has turned to Kickstarter.

Kickstarter has guidelines that the artist must meet, not least of which the fundraising time limit. If the minimum funds are not achieved within the time limit the project receives nothing. Ryan’s book has 29 days. If he does not meet his goal of $3000 US before APRIL 23, all pledges will be cancelled and the book will not be made.

So why Kickstarter? Ryan says,” It gives me an opportunity to promote my work. Success or failure, the risks are low for everyone involved. At the very least I will have made myself more visible in a business saturated with talent.” In addition Kickstarter is able to advertise and receive funds from a global community.

Ryan’s book is split into sections (chapters). First is a film pitch of a little people in the woods. Second is a animation styled section with a step by step breakdown of his process and the third is Ryan’s take on the post apocalypse genre.
