This project was born due to the frustration of running, jogging or working out and having the earphones falling out. The music became a frustration instead of motivation. After creating and testing so many prototypes we finally found a set that works great and can be used for different purposes.
“12 INDIVIDUAL PIECES ARE ASSEMBLED TO MAKE ONE PAIR OF HOBS”.
With this final design we went to a few mold injection companies and got quotes to make the tooling. We had several options to fabricate them and get them fairly cheap but we didn’t want to affect the quality or durability.
I want the HOBs to be a helpful tool that will help you bring your favorite music or audio books to the mats, track, field or your morning run, whether you are training for a marathon or just mowing the lawn.
When I first started I had no idea of the production costs. Now, I’m still no expert, but the extensive research has helped me understand the steps it takes to bring an idea to life.
Just the molds for the HOBs are $15,000 (and that was my lowest quote), then the cost of the magnets (we are using neodymium magnets N42), the thermoplastics, silicone and assembly costs are added on top of everything. After that we have to cover all the fees involved with the manufacturing and selling of the product. So our goal is 27000 to break even.
