Student from San Francisco State University, Kate Patterson is directing her first short film “Don’t Walk Alone in the Dark.” The film shows how Women often feel that they are easy targets to predators when alone at night, therefore walking by yourself in the dark is something that should be avoided. However, when kindness is stronger than fear, it is common to ignore the risks.
This puts us in danger of living out our fears and discovering that the most dangerous creatures aren’t as scary as they look.
This is a film the is being created by students and other armature filmmakers and actors. Kate has made a name for herself across the University’s Cinema department through working in the office, and being the President of the Feminist Filmmaker Fellowship! With this film, and the other projects she has worked on, Kate is hoping to move forward in her career by working on more film sets, and being a bigger part of the industry.
In this film, we meet Valerie on her adventures in her new neighborhood. As a kindhearted person wanting to help anyone she encounters, Valerie takes it upon herself to befriend her monstrous neighbors. After a couple encounters, she finds out they aren’t as scary as the neighborhood wants everyone to think. Valerie’s tendency to see the best in everyone leads to her downfall when the real monster in her neighborhood takes advantage of her kindness.
