After almost 30 years in the making, comic book radio show host Mark Torres of “It Came From The Radio” is one step closer to making his lifelong dream become a reality and (with the help of Kickstarter) publish his comic book in a stand alone series.
“Designated” is a one hundred and ten page, five issue series that tells the tale of two warring alien races (the peace loving Forlunds and the war-like Jeronains) fighting over a newly discovered power source, the Capricious Star. This war finds it way to Earth and our Heroes (Natasha, Adam, Kelly, Chris, and Ed) gain powers as a result.
The book, which issue one is to be crowdfunded initially, had been already penciled and partially inked before the circumstances forced the project to be halted in 2008, which was already 14 years after the original story had been written. Pencils are by Jade Smith with inks by Marvel and DC comics Inker Peter Palmiotti (most famous for his work on Aquaman along side Writer Peter David during the early 2000’s). The Cover is by Image comics Babe Artist Franchesco! (you have to remember the exclamation point). Adventures of Wonder Duck’s Jorge Medina is currently Lettering the book.
The Crowdfunder will launch on Saturday July 30th during a 2 hour live stream on Peter Palmiotti’s Youtube page and (with a min of 10 people) they will be giving away a Harry Potter Hermione Granger figuring (code SA0027) valued at over $200 as a thank you to those who pledge. The livestream will begin at 11am EST. The campaign will run for 31 days (ending on August 30th) with a goal of $6128. If they make stretch goals, additional issues of the book will be available as well as an “Indie digital comic pack” with books from various independent comic book creators that Mark has befriended in the (almost) 20 years that his show has been on the air. www.kickstarter.com
