Tuscaloosa, AL – The independent film production company Crimson Pictures has announced an official wrap date for their found footage style horror film “Cheaha”. Writer, director and executive producer Ron Hudson stated in a Facebook and Twitter post that Cheaha will officially wrap on July 27th, 2013, following the final scenes shot on that day. The title itself is based on the state of Alabama’s highest point, Mount Cheaha.
Cheaha was developed in the summer of 2012 and officially entered pre-production in March of 2012 with the first day of filming beginning on June 9th 2012. Filming was delayed a few months following the decline in health of the director’s beloved grandmother. After her untimely and unfortunate passing, filming resumed briefly in the fall and was once again put on hiatus during the winter of 2013 to prevent continuity issues with the scenery. The film entered its final shooting phase last spring and will enter post-production immediately following the final day of filming on the 27th of July.
The company has released one teaser trailer already and a second teaser trailer is scheduled to be released in the coming weeks, followed by the film’s official and only theatrical trailer. The teaser trailer is available on both the film’s website and Facebook fan page.
According to the film’s website, Cheaha will be released in the fall of 2013. While no exact date or specific distribution details have been leaked as of now, the film will be screened at various film festivals across the country, according to an email sent out by the Cheaha producers. A private premier is scheduled for the cast and crew prior to the public premier. According to a few cast members, the producers have told them they’re aiming to privately premier the film in Columbus, Ga at one of the local Carmike theaters in the area. No other details have been released.
Over the course of a year, the cast and crew have ventured all across the states of Alabama and Georgia, making stops in numerous cities and towns to film, ironically no scenes were filmed even remotely close to Mount Cheaha, Alabama. The primary shooting locations, however, were based out of Columbus, GA and Phenix City, AL.
The final shooting day will take place in Smiths, Alabama, a small town located directly on the outskirts of Phenix City, in the backyard of a dear friend of the director.
Cheaha is a fictional found footage style horror film in the vein of Paranormal Activity, The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield that tells the story of two young college students who are hunted by an unknown creature while hiking the legendary Cheaha Mountain.
