AUSTIN, TX (February 1, 2014) — Chuckle Farm is partnering with the Austin-based, domestic manufacturing company Ramshackle to launch a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise $65,800. The campaign, which officially launches February 1, 2014, will use all donated funds to equip Ramshackle’s production studio for the creation of ceramic ware, including expanding the production of Chuckle Farm’s artisan, indoor ceramic planters.

Through Ramshackle’s Kickstarter campaign, the public can pledge funds to help Ramshackle establish this studio in order to expand production on Chuckle Farm’s artisan planters and begin offering American-based ceramic production for other budding designers, small business owners and entrepreneurs in his Austin studio. The rewards offered for donations range from a name engraved on their Founder’s Wall ($5 donation) to all six available planters ($1,000), with many donation options in between. In addition, donors who pledge $2,500 or more get the opportunity to have their own production projects launched with the help of Ramshackle.

Chuckle Farm, created by interior designer-turned-product developer Alison McPherson, is a new line of indoor ceramic planters and garden accessories. Her current offerings include brightly colored and artfully illustrated planters as well as ceramic origami birds and butterflies. The popular items are time-intensive to produce, giving McPherson no option but to search for a domestic manufacturer willing to help her expand her production capability.

McPherson was introduced to Ramshackle founder Dustin B. McGilvray through an advertisement in Ceramics Monthly. McGilvray, who holds an MFA in ceramics from Louisiana Tech University, founded Ramshackle to preserve and progress the tradition of American handcrafted goods through time-honored processes by coupling them with 21st century technology as a new offering in domestic production.

Instead of having to turn to overseas manufacturers because of small, and therefore expensive, production orders, Ramshackle partnered with Chuckle Farm to bring McPherson’s creations to life. Through McGilvray’s expertise in ceramics and craftsmanship as well as his dedication to affordable domestic production opportunities for entrepreneurs, Ramshackle is able to assist start-up companies, such as Chuckle Farm, get started in their important first years.

“I have personally encountered and battled the difficult hurdles that a creative start-up business faces in this economic climate,” said McGilvray. “It can be very challenging finding individuals that will have faith in novel concepts, not just in monetary support, but also for prototype development and small production runs. We want to support the ‘little guy.’”

In addition to keeping the production process in the United States, his entire operation will be dedicated to being environmentally friendly and sustainable. They will focus on using energy saving kilns and solar and wind energy as well as recycling damaged products, filtering of waste water and sourcing materials processed in a responsible manner.
