York, England (November 2017) — Simplify your life with the CM1… a fridge door display packed full of cool features, easily controlled from your phone.
Chill Media Innovations, an innovator in smart home products, has announced it is raising funds on Kickstarter to finish development of its first product, the CM1 Smart Fridge. Chill Media has set out to raise additional funds on Kickstarter in order to produce the first batch of the CM1 Smart Fridge that will change the everyday refrigerator from boring to a fun and integral item in the home. “We know everyone uses a fridge every day. It’s always powered on, but it is boring. So boring, that we cover them up with door-panels, stickers, magnets, notes and pictures. At Chill Media, we’ve been trying to make fridges more exciting since 2012,” commented Nick Bortone, managing director of Chill Media. “We loved the idea of letting the fridge owner decide what the fridge looked like, and rather than design a thousand variations, we came up with the idea of changing the look of the fridge with a massive screen. Taking up almost all of the door, the owner can change how they look at the fridge every day.”
The CM1 Smart Fridge offers a new way to leave notes, check calendars, display photos and artwork, as well as check the weather, search the internet for recipes, videos or just entertainment in the evenings. It takes a device (a smartphone) that everyone already has plugged in 24/7 and opens 15 – 20 times per day to bring all these features into a person’s kitchen. It features web browsing, a video player, calendar and notes function, a photo gallery, music player, as well as sleep and stream modes. Behind everything, the CM1 is a fridge. Glass shelves, door shelves and a vegetable crisper all come in a quiet, energy efficient A+ rated device.
The CM1 connects through the local Wi-Fi, allowing the owner to browse the web using their smartphone as the remote control. The high-resolution portrait frame is very handy for browsing pages where most of the content is accessed by a vertical scroll, such as recipe sites. It also plays video from local sources or network accessible source on the portrait screen. The high brightness of the LCD screen is 1920 x 1080, providing clear images at a wide viewing angle. Linked via Bluetooth to a speaker system, users can have the level of sound desired to accompany videos. The CM1 can also provide the owner with streams of information from news and weather sources.
The calendar function holds a family calendar, which can be linked with personal calendars. Set reminders and expiration dates for events, as well as color code upcoming events. Users can set the view to emphasize the coming week, that very day, tomorrow or the whole month. Those with the app in the household can view and edit the reminders.
The CM1 notes function links with the calendar. When a note is added through a smartphone, it can be set to appear on the home screen, for a fixed time or even to appear at a scheduled time. Color, font and size can all be designated within the notes, which can even appear when playing media, such as audio streaming, but will not interfere with a full screen video.
Hundreds of photos and short videos from a smartphone, cloud storage or local storage can be displayed on the CM1 door. Select favorite images for a slideshow or just let it roll through forgotten moments from holidays, trips and events. The music player links with a user’s Bluetooth speakers of choice where they can access local or networked audio files and web accessed audio streams, such as podcasts and radio. Control the volume, track playing and source of the music all from the smartphone. See track and artist or station information on the fridge screen.
Although the fridge is powered continuously, the CM1 screen can be set to power down at certain times of the day, after certain periods of no activity or following a press on the frame in a certain place. It can also be woken up using these controls, so it’s ready with the default screen when the owner heads into the kitchen in the morning. The CM1 can also be set to a specific screen, or a specific application, after a defined time.
“What we need now is your support to produce this one smart fridge into hundreds and finalize the features and functions of the CM1, so everyone can use them straight out of the box. With your support and backing, we can get this from a one-off, which is cool to have in our offices, to hundreds of people in hundreds of homes, where we hope to change and impact the way people use their fridge within the kitchen,” commented Bortone.
