New York, May 26, 2016— Documentary feature Catching the Sun, directed by Shalini Kantayya, launched a Kickstarter campaign on May 18th, 2015 to finance the fine-cut of the film before the world premiere at Los Angeles Film Festival.

The 2015 Los Angeles Film Festival will present the world premiere of Catching The Sun, a feature documentary from 7th Empire Media about clean energy and solar power. Catching The Sun will compete in the documentary category of the Los Angeles Film Festival, which takes place from June 10th to June 18th, 2015.

Catching The Sun explores the interwoven stories and characters leading change in our current global economy towards a clean energy future with a focus in solar power. The film follows solar power trainees looking for employment opportunities in the solar power industry, solar entrepreneurs like Wally Jiang, and activists, such as, Bay-Area activist, Van Jones and Green Tea Party activist, Debbie Dooley. All of these successes and failures speak to one of the biggest questions of our time: will the U.S. actually be able to build a clean energy economy?

Director Shalini Kantayya is a William J. Fulbright Scholar, Sundance Fellow, and TED Fellow whose sci-fi film, A DROP of LIFE, won Best Short at Palm Beach International, and was broadcast on national television in the U.S. and India

Catching the Sun has launched a Kickstarter campaign in preparation for world premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 11th. Donations for this film will help cover archival clearance, legal fees and hard costs for finishing the film. The film participated in Sundance Creative Producing Labs and IFP Spotlight on Documentary, which has helped the film build strong relationships prior to the film’s premiere.
