This post is to inform people about my new Kickstarter project called Brush Playing Cards. The cards are 100% customized. All the artwork was made by me, Carlos Contreras. The deck is a twist to the classic Bicycle standard or ryderback that you are used to buy for friendly poker games, go fish, magic, cardistry, card manipulation and other card games.
The deck will be produced if the campaign reaches the goal of $7,500. If the goal is reached the product will be produced by the Legends Playing Card Company, a new company that has proved to be superior quality than the classic Bicycle.
The artwork in the deck it’s very similar to what your used to see in the playing cards you have laying around your house but once you see it you will see that it’s a really interesting take on remaking the classic back design, number cards, court cards and jokers.
I have shown the deck to multiple people and they really like it and says that the design is very original, beautiful, interesting, new etc.
Below its a little story of why I made the deck and released it.
Basically a couple of months ago I tried to make a deck called “Tallans”, I got a lot of good feedback and a lot of bad too. I’m not really well know in the cardistry and magic community, I decided to take a shot and launch it on kickstarter and only got 11 backers. A lot of people criticize me because I was too young. Basically I said “I’m leaving the card design community” and kept designing other stuff. The thing is that I always have a deck of cards in my hands so I decided to try to make another deck. I wanted to do something abstract and different so I just started sketching “flowy” things and then vectorize it. I liked how it turned out, but I have learned from the past that what you think it’s best, to another may not. That’s why I’m asking people to give me their feedback and this time make something that not only I like, but something that the people like too.
The premise of the design is, what I can do without thinking without any ideas or inspiration, just throwing whatever comes to my mind in that moment when I’m drawing.
