Smart, compact and portable air monitoring device providing real-time information on deadly pollution launches on Indiegogo.
BREATHE|Smart, a new smart air monitoring device, designed to be used both inside and outside the home to provide awareness of deadly air pollution and dramatically improve health, is now available for pre-order on Indiegogo.
December 3rd, 2018. Breathe Tech Ltd, a revolutionary new company developing air pollution monitoring devices with the goal of reducing the world’s exposure to harmful air, has announced the launch of its first product, BREATHE|Smart.
BREATHE|Smart is a compact air quality monitor that can identify, in real time, deadly forms of pollution and provide users vital information to keep life-threatening illnesses and diseases away.
With a portable design, BREATHE|Smart differentiates from other air pollution monitors as it can be used both in and out of the home, making it accessible to even the most vulnerable users.
Adding to its ease-of-usability, unlike many of today’s smart devices, BREATHE|Smart doesn’t need to be tethered to a smartphone, making it simple to use with no apps or subscriptions required.
For children, who breathe faster than adults as their lungs develop, cyclists and runners who breathe more deeply and at a quicker rate and pregnant women whose babies are exposed to potentially harmful air pollution in the womb, the device is essential.
Indeed, Breathe Tech was founded in 2017 by Christopher Turner after he became concerned about the high-levels of pollution in London, and the harmful impact it was having on his daughter’s health.
“I realised that there is only so much government can do and air quality is not going to get better quickly, so the best solution was to minimise exposure to harmful air and the only way to do that was to somehow make the invisible air pollution, visible”.
Providing real-time information on a screen, the BREATHE|Smart monitor measures particulate matter in the air, specifically PM2.5 (particles less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter).
The device draws air in with a fan and an optical particle concentration sensor measures the concentration of harmful PM2.5 particulates. The output is displayed on the screen, so users can easily see the current air conditions, while providing suggestions on ways to reduce exposure to harmful air, such as taking alternative routes or avoiding certain high-risk areas.
In the home, the risk of harmful and toxic air is an increasing problem. On average, people spend 90% of time indoors, increasing in some cases to 100% for children, with constant exposure to smoking, faulty boilers, gas cookers and heaters, as well as irritant chemicals for air fresheners and household cleaning products.
With access to the vital information provided by BREATHE|Smart, steps can be taken to reduce exposure to harmful air, inside and outside the home, resulting in an improvement to people’s health and even prolong lives.
Studies have found that exposure to PM2.5 has multiple health impacts, from short term effects such as irritation to the eyes, nose and a shortness of breath, to permanent respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis and even heart disease and cancer.
In 2014, a World Health Organsiation found that air pollution in 2012 caused the deaths of around 7 million people worldwide.
Rolling-out across Western Europe, USA, Canada and Australia, the new BREATHE|Smart monitoring device is currently available for pre-order on Indiegogo, at a discounted price of $69.
