Baltimore, MD — On February 7th 2018, Ruby Taylor launched a Kickstarter campaign for THE BOOK OF SUNSHINE, an inspiring memoir exploring the power of the sun in the author’s coming out journey, as she breaks free from religious oppression. After one-day this campaign has already raised over $2,000 of its $5,000 funding goal with 30 days left to go.
“This book is for anyone who has struggled. Anyone who has gone through pain, family secrets, religious oppression, love denied, and feeling like life has more to offer-but wondering when it will appear,” said Taylor, “Anyone who, like me, has struggled to come to terms with their past, religious oppression and secrets. I was stuck there for almost 9 years, and the light that once shined bright within, became a flicker.”
Growing up in The Bronx to southern Christian parents, Ruby was brought up to believe in a God who condemned gay people to hell. It was that belief system that made it almost impossible for Ruby to accept her truth until later in life. When life throws you into the darkness, finding sunshine can seem like an impossible task. Yet Ruby “Sunshine” Taylor shows you how she persevered and how, through self-discovery and faith, you can too.
THE BOOK OF SUNSHINE is a memoir written in a flowing, down-to-earth style. Ruby “Sunshine” Taylor’s unique combination of letters, advice, poetry, quotes, and photography, it is a reflection of the author’s journey through healing and inner peace. Packed with over 50 photos of the sun, Ruby designed this collection to help readers embrace their authentic self by reflecting on God’s unfailing and unconditional love, one sun photo at a time.
“I’ve written a book to share my journey to find peace with my sexuality through recognizing God’s unconditional love,” the author explained, “THE BOOK OF SUNSHINE was written for any person in need of a little Sunshine in their lives. It is for heterosexuals, homosexuals, bisexuals, asexuals, believers, non-believers, males, females, young, elders and everyone in between.”
In exchange for pledging to the project, backers can gain access to a variety of rewards including a paperback copy of THE BOOK OF SUNSHINE for $27, an autographed paperback for $37, and more. Backers can also pledge $57 for a signed hardcover copy of the book or $97 for a signed hardcover, two 5×7 Sun Photos, and two tickets to the private book release party in Baltimore, Maryland.
