Beauty Unretouched is a photographic project dedicated to celebrate women’s natural beauty.
After 20 years as a commercial photographer, I have finally decided to stop hiding “imperfections” and start showing the things that make us human.
I started this project because one day, I realized that the models I was working with, in this particular photo shoot, were not the typical models. They had a more conventional, next door look, a bit heavier than I was used to, not as tall… At the same time, I realized they were truly beautiful women. Later, in post production, I started polishing their skin, hiding love handles… And when I finished, I realized my photos didn’t look like these two girls at all. They sure looked like your typical skinny, perfect skinned model, but it wasn’t them.
I thought, why did I change these amazing girls into something they are not? Because it’s the norm? Because we are used to see magazine covers like that? There was nothing wrong with these young ladies, in fact, I liked the natural version a lot better than the plastic version I had created.
My project goal is really a long shot. I would like to start a tendency. A tendency to go back to a time when you could trust you senses and decide if a person is beautiful or not.
