Innovative Adsurper Kickstarter aims to democratize public advertising spaces and ruin this guy’s chances of ever getting a real job.
Aside from your usual miscreant tomfoolery of getting a ridiculous photo on a billboard, Noah Tilsen with help from his girlfriend Julia (last name omitted) hope to bring a profoundly novel concept forward. Adsurper aims to create an infrastructure for artistic ideas to be seen or heard using channels normally used for advertisements. “Usurp the Ads.” It all starts with an attention grabbing billboard.
In the future, the sky’s the limit. Want to put a radio ad for a fake company on npr? Want to run a satirical political campaign advertisement? How about a beautiful painting in a urinal stall advertisement slot?
“Personally, the most satisfying part of this project will come from confozzling the masses, in that there is nothing actually being sold. There is no ad. There will only be “subvertisements”. The point of the ad is the art.” Says Tilsen, the founder of adsurper and guinea pig.
Could this be a dream come true, or will this photo of Tilsen, almost naked, covered in cats, on a billboard, spell the end of his life as he knows it?
Funds raised will go directly towards getting the billboard up, as well as making a better and more functional website. Adsurper is a collective art project with the intention of putting art and fake advertisements in public spaces traditionally used for advertising. Anyone can become an Adsurper – either by submitting ideas to be displayed, or by donating to a project you would like to see in the public space. Temporal in nature, as are regular advertisements – Adsurpers are here one month and gone the next. The goal is to expose a general public not normally exposed to interesting art and ideas by running “ads” on Billboards, Bus stops, Benches, Internet & Youtube, Direct Mailers.
As of now Adsurper is primarily located within the Twin Cities but hope to grow into other metropolitan areas. Take note! with certain donation rewards you can submit your own idea and be a part of the inaugural launch. You can be one of the first Adsurpers.
“As much as I’d love to be an eccentric millionaire, subjecting the unsuspecting masses to my cats on a whim, the reality is I cannot do this without you.” -Noah Tilsen.
