In early November, Bark Sweden started its crowdfunding on Kickstarter with offers to both individuals and companies. Bark Sweden is a newly started company that manufactures and sells smartphone cases from 100% Swedish recycled hardwood.
– Our smartphone cases are made of hardwood trees that have been left over from forest management in parks and green areas.
We have developed a completely new method for transforming wood into shock resistant, sustainable and beautiful smartphone cases, says Frida Lilliestråle, who together with her husband Richard are the founders behind the company.
The journey has been long. Very long. And lined with tears and joy.
A vision of sustainability and a love of the material got the committed couple to stubbornly test new techniques to make theirs idea to reality.
– We had a vision and have after a long and thorough phase of product development and experimentation managed to arrive at a method for producing shock-resistant smartphone cases made entirely of wood, says Richard Lilliestråle. Everything takes place in our factory in Stockholm; from a piece of wood to a finished case. A patent is pending on the technology we have developed. Each case is also unique, the customer chooses between different types of wood and patterning.
We who stand behind and have founded Bark Sweden are Frida and Richard Lillieståle. Frida is a graphic designer, she is responsible for the company’s concept, design, purchase of wood and environmental aspects. Frida has worked at several companies with marketing and is experiencing a constant frustration over the culture of wear and tear and dreams of getting to work on something that makes the world better.
Richard Lilliestråle is an engineer and is responsible for product development and production. Richard has throughout his professional life developed other people’s products and longed to work on something he is passionate about that also contributes to a better environment.
