Isomorphic MIDI Controller “AXiS-64” Becomes Unavailable at End of January, Spurring a Race Against Time for One Musician to Raise Funds.

C-Thru Music Ltd, one of the world’s only vendors of “isomorphic keyboards”, has announced that it will be going out of business at the end of January. Enthusiasts are now forced to scramble to get their hands on these instruments before they become unavailable, and one musician goes as far as to crowdsource the funds from the online community.

For decades, new musical instruments have caused hype and developed cult followings, but have failed to break through into the mainstream. According to a statement on C-Thru’s website, “maintaining a corporation with all the associated costs isn’t economically viable”. That is to say, unfortunately not enough people bought their product. Or at least, not when C-Thru needed it.

A representative from C-Thru points out, “Ironic that once people knew we were closing down, that they sold like hot cakes at the same price they’ve been for a while!” One prominent enthusiast and Youtube content creator, John Moriarty,  has even resorted to crowdsourcing his way to one of the keyboard models, the AXiS-64, before the store closes. “I’ve contributed to the community by making educational and, I think, entertaining videos about these keyboards and music theory in general, so I don’t feel bad asking the community if they’re willing to give back. I’ll let them decide if I get my hands on one or not.”

John Moriarty is a vocal performance major at Bucks County Community college and  already owns two of the company’s smaller keyboard models, the AXiS-49. He hopes to incentivize backers with promises of an album produced exclusively with the AXiS keyboards, as well as with mementos from his previous youtube videos: www.kickstarter.com
