A Colorado nonprofit law firm, Environmental and Animal Defense (“eaDefense”), is inviting people to participate in a public art advocacy project for animals and the environment. The Kickstarter campaign, that started on October 29, 2018 and runs for 30 days, asks individuals to back the project and then submit artwork that can be used as part of an advocacy campaign around the country. The nonprofit will use the submissions from backers to promote positive community ideas that support wild places, environmental protection, animal welfare and animal rights.
Jeremy Mckay, Executive Director of Environmental and Animal Defense states, “Too often does the ideological message of environmental protection and animal rights get dictated from a small and select group of powerful interests in the field. There many members of the community who have their own ideas on what protecting open spaces and animals means. Our job, especially as attorneys, should not be to speak for others, but to help defend their stories and their voices. This is a chance to help flash those thoughts and stories to the broader community.”
The Kickstarter campaign, aptly titled The Voice of the Public, and available at www.eadefense.org/kickstarter, allows participants to select their level of support and submit their message for use. While the nonprofit has some rules restricting the types of messages they will accept, the campaign allows backers to choose levels of support that grant guaranteed participation.
The nonprofit running the campaign works to protect wild places and animals by enforcing national laws and protects families and their animals by representing them in court. eaDefense is one of a few nonprofit law firms that provides lower cost legal representation to people who don’t qualify for free legal aid but can’t afford a traditionally-priced attorney. Environmental and Animal Defense is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit entity organized in the state of Colorado eligible to receive tax deductible donations.
