Irvine, CA, July 8, 2016 — Aurora Aperture Inc., a Southern California startup, today has introduced PowerUV protection and CPL filter families.
“One of the first lens accessories people would buy for their new lenses is an UV filter, as they were hoping an UV filter can protect their expensive lenses, “ said Jinfu Chen, founder and CEO of Aurora Aperture Inc. However, most UV filters and protection filters in the market today do not have any meaningful protection as they are made from normal glass that can be easily broken. Chemically toughened glass such as Gorilla® Glass has been very popular in modern smartphones and tablets due to their much stronger impact and scratch capabilities. It’s only a matter of time when they are used as protection filters for camera lenses.”
The PowerUV protector and PowerCPL filters are based on Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3. They can pass the Drop Ball Test that is mandated by the FDA regulation* for eyeglasses and sunglasses.
The drop ball test is performed by dropping a steel ball weighing 0.56 ounce from a height of 50 inches upon the surface of the test target. To pass the the test, the test target must not fracture.
Traditional UV filters made from normal glass are unable to pass this test, some even fail with less than half of the test weight at 0.25 ounce. The Aurora PowerUV protection filters not only pass the test at the standard weight of 0.56 ounce, they even pass at 2 ounces which is 3.5 times of the standard weight.
By applying multilayer nano coating for both anti-reflection and surface protection, the PowerUV protection filters achieve 99.6% of transmission rate which on part with filters made with premium optic glass. Thorough tests have been conducted to ensure the PowerUV protection filters can maintain super optic performance while provide much better protection capability.
With proliferation of digital cameras and photo editing software, many special effect lens filters are obsolete except a few specialized filters such as circular polarizer filters and neutral density filters. Circular polarizer (CPL) filters can filter out polarized light, thus making a polarized sky bluer and color richer, and reducing glare and reflection from a water or window surface.
The Aurora PowerCPL filter features an anti-lockup design to prevent “stuck filter” phenomenon common in thin profile CPL filters.
Designed in California by Aurora Aperture, both PowerUV and Power CPL filters use a slim filter frame which helps minimize vignetting on wide angle lenses.
“The Aurora PowerUV protection filters are the toughest protection filters in the world*,” said Mr. Chen. “Your camera lenses deserve the same level of protection as your eyes.”
