Influenced by the current state of the historic Lower Ninth Ward, Castillo was inspired by the creative energy and organic rebirth of the neighborhood, a blank canvas unraveling before us. The sculpture is part of the upcoming Prospect New Orleans Art Biennial in late October. The artist is conducting an online fundraiser for the piece and the community: www.hatchfund.org

A larger than life ball of strips of virgin canvas will be prominently installed in the front yard of a house undergoing renovation, easily seen by passersby. The sphere is a metaphor for our world as a blank canvas evolving or unraveling.  Its outdoor placement makes it vulnerable to the elements, consequently its appearance will evolve through time.
